Kerala tea-shop style banana fritters made with ripe nendran pazham and a crisp golden batter.

Pazham Pori

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe nendran bananas
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Water as needed
  • Coconut oil or neutral oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Peel the bananas and slice each one lengthwise into thin pieces.
  2. Mix flour, rice flour, sugar, turmeric, and salt. Add water to make a smooth coating batter.
  3. Heat oil over medium flame.
  4. Dip each banana slice in batter and fry until crisp and golden on both sides.
  5. Drain well and serve hot with tea.
