Oats Upma

Whip up a delicious Oats Upma with this easy recipe featuring oats, veggies, and a dash of ghee—perfect for a hearty feed in Brisbane on 24 March 2025!

Oats Upma

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup oats
  • ½ cup chopped carrot and capsicum
  • ½ cup onion
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1 tsp yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp grated coconut
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • Salt, curry leaves, and dried chillies – as much as you reckon

How to Cook It:
Start by lightly roasting the oats in a pan till they’re golden—don’t overdo it, mate. In another pan, heat up the ghee, then toss in the mustard seeds and urad dal till they start popping and sizzling. Chuck in the onion and veggies, giving them a good stir-fry till they soften up a bit.

Next, mix in the roasted oats, sprinkle some salt, and stir through the yoghurt for a creamy twist. Finish it off by tossing in the grated coconut while it’s still hot, then serve it up with a grin.
